Placement Diagram
JOINING BLOCKS & STRIPS -
Join 3 blocks to 2 lengthwise strips
to complete one row; then join one
edge of row to one edge of
crosswise strip, and so on.  Follow
Quilt Diagram for number of rows
needed and placement of strips and
blocks.

LINING & BORDER - Join the 3
strips of material cut for lining
(backing) and border.  Spread on
floor or large table, wrong-side up.
Over this, place a sheet of batting
(interlining) so that an equal
amount extends out on all edges;
about 9 1/4").  Place quilt top over
batting, making adjustments so
that 8 3/4" backing extends all the
way around.  (See Detail 1).  This
extending backing is the self-made
border.  Tack all three thicknessess
securely together, tacking at
corners of blocks and strips.  Fold
extending lining to cover the
interlining.  Turn under edge which
just extends over edge of blocks.
Mitre corners by cutting across (see
Details 2 & 3).  Slip stitch edge of
border to edge of blocks and strips.
