Print out pattern and cut out the pieces.
Print the color picture and glue it to the
front of an envelope. Store your pattern
pieces & directions inside when you are
finished. The color picture will also give
you a point of reference when you are
working on your project. You may choose
your own colors; mine are referenced.
Little Cottages like this were originally designed as pen wipers. They are easy to do and can be given as friendship tokens. Tuck one inside a birthday card and send it to a far-away stitching friend!

EMBROIDERY: Use 4 strands of floss for
blanket-stitching, and other embroidery. Use 2
strands (mint green) for the shutter detail.
Windows; take two long stitches as indicated on
pattern to form "panes". Sew on a small glass
bead for the door knob.
PRIMROSE PATH: Do with French knots,
randomly spaced, with peach and coral. Line
path with dark blue-green; leaves mint green.
Cover inside stitches with a felt piece about 3" x
2"; pink edges if desired. Dab glue along edges of
rectangle leaving the middle loose (for inserting
needles later). Set aside; let dry.
BACK: Stitch the remaining two foundation
pieces together using a blanket stitch. Whip-stitch
the front and back together at the roof-top with
matching floss.
Cut a felt square about 3" x 3" and trim (or pink)
to fit on the inside; tack down around the edges
with glue, leaving middle loose. Let dry
completely before inserting needles and pins.
Materials
Scraps of wool felt; acrylic craft felt also
works, but wool is more durable. For item
shown, five colors were used: ivory, gray, red,
blue-green, and sage green.
Embroidery floss - DMC colors: #892 coral pink;
#3824 peach, #561 dk. blue-green; #966 mint
green.
Fabric Glue such as "fabri-tac.
Needle, sewing thread, pins, scissors, and
pinking shears (optional).
DIRECTIONS: Cut out the required number of
pieces from felt, as indicated on each pattern
piece. "Build" your cottage by layering the
pieces and securing with glue and simple hand
stitchery.
COTTAGE FRONT: Start with one foundation
piece; pin cottage front in place, and tack down
along both long edges. Use sewing thread to
match.
ROOF & CHIMNEY: Pin roof in place; attach
with blanket stitches all around. (Center
chimney between layers.)
DOOR & WINDOWS: Use small dabs of fabric
glue to tack down door, windows, and shutters.
Let dry.
